Privacy policy
Nostos Advisors, LLC ("Nostos", "we", "us") runs this website and the Nostos platform, which scholarship granting organizations (SGOs) use to receive gifts, accept scholarship applications and keep the records the federal scholarship tax credit requires. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Who this policy covers
It covers visitors to this site, donors who give through an SGO's Nostos checkout, parents and guardians who apply for scholarships, and staff of schools and SGOs who use the back office. Each SGO is a separate organization and is responsible for how it uses the records Nostos keeps on its behalf.
What we collect
- Contact details — name, email address, phone number and mailing address.
- Gift details — amount, date, designation, the SGO and any advisory school preference, campaign code and the acknowledgement we send you. Card and bank details go directly to our payment processor; we keep only the last four digits and the processor's reference.
- Application details — the students in your household, their dates of birth, grades and schools, your address, household income and the documents you upload to verify it, and the certifications you sign.
- Account details — login credentials, your role and organization, and a log of actions taken in the back office.
- Usage data — pages visited, device and browser type, approximate location and referring links, collected through cookies and Google Tag Manager.
Why we use it
- To process gifts, issue acknowledgements and donor numbers, and report what the IRS and states require.
- To review scholarship applications, verify eligibility and pay awards to schools.
- To run accounts, answer support requests and keep the platform secure.
- To understand how the site is used and improve it.
- To meet legal obligations, including record retention and audit.
Children
Scholarship applications include information about students, supplied by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children under 13, and we use student information only to administer scholarships.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. We share it only:
- with the SGO you give to or apply to, which owns those records;
- with the school named in an award, to the extent needed to pay and confirm it;
- with service providers that host, process payments, send email and provide analytics for us;
- with the IRS, state agencies, auditors and counsel where the law or a certification requires it;
- to protect the rights, safety and property of Nostos, its users or others.
Retention
Gift and application records are kept for as long as the tax credit rules and the SGO's audit obligations require, currently at least seven years after the tax year they relate to. Usage data is kept for up to 26 months. You can ask us to delete information that we are not required to keep.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is limited by role, and payment details never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information we will notify you as the law requires.
Your choices
- You can review and update your contact details in your account.
- You can ask for a copy of, a correction to, or deletion of your personal information.
- You can opt out of non-essential email through the link in any message.
- You can block cookies in your browser; the site still works without them.
Residents of states with privacy laws that grant additional rights can exercise them by contacting us.
Changes
We will post any changes here and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you by email.
