Terms of use

These terms govern your use of this website and the Nostos platform, operated by Nostos Advisors, LLC ("Nostos", "we", "us"). By using the site, giving through it or applying through it, you agree to them. If you use it on behalf of a school or SGO, you confirm you are authorized to bind that organization.

What Nostos is, and isn't

Nostos provides technology and administrative services to independent scholarship granting organizations. Each SGO is a separate 501(c)(3) organization that receives your gift, decides awards and is listed with the IRS and its state. Nostos is not an SGO, does not decide awards, and does not give legal or tax advice.

Gifts

• Gifts are made to the SGO you choose, not to Nostos, and are final once processed.
• A school preference is advisory only. Gifts cannot be earmarked for a particular student or school, and an SGO may apply any gift to any eligible student.
• Whether a gift qualifies for the federal scholarship tax credit, and for how much, depends on your own tax situation and on the SGO's listing status at the time of the gift. Confirm it with your tax adviser.
• Processing fees shown at checkout are added to the gift amount and are not refundable.

Applications

• Everything you submit must be accurate and complete; certifications are made under penalty of perjury.
• Submitting an application does not guarantee an award. Awards are decided by the SGO under its own policy.
• Awards are paid to the school, not to the family, and cannot exceed the student's tuition and fees.

Accounts

Keep your login credentials confidential and tell us promptly if you suspect misuse. You are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend accounts used in breach of these terms or the law.

Acceptable use

Do not use the site to submit false information, to interfere with its operation or security, to access other users' data, to scrape it, or for any unlawful purpose.

Content and intellectual property

The site, its design and its content belong to Nostos or its licensors. You may use them to give, apply and run your organization, and for no other purpose without our written permission. You keep ownership of what you upload and give the relevant SGO and Nostos a licence to use it to provide the service.

Disclaimers

The site is provided "as is". Educational material on it reflects IRS temporary and proposed regulations and state rules as we understand them and may be out of date. We make no warranty about tax outcomes, award decisions or uninterrupted availability.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Nostos is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, and its total liability for any claim is limited to the fees paid to Nostos for the service in the twelve months before the claim arose.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Florida. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Sarasota County, Florida.

Changes

We may update these terms; the current version is always posted here with its effective date.
